______Cool, and collected. You'd always think that Sebastian Vaughn was a man with a plan. Those calculating eyes welcoming you to a complex world of his own design. Yet deep under that guarded surface, you'd find a broken psyche trying to desperately hold itself together... or keep something inside.

______Dressed in lavish suits of creams and whites-- with a dark vest and a hint of color in the lace at his throat. This man dressed to impress, and knew just how to make himself appealing to the eye. His silken coat always well groomed, and his hands rarely without a cane to take his weight on the right side. It's those dual colored eyes, that are the most striking. An emerald green in the sea of white-- and a golden amber in a patch of black.

______Born to loving parents, in the late 1800's, Sebastian Thomas Vaughn was the eldest son of the noble family, and the heir to all of it's miseries. His childhood was relatively uneventful, aside from one incident with an unruly slave attempting to murder him, according to his father. That incident faded from memory, like the slave that had been killed for the upstart. He grew up charming and quick-witted under the heavy pressures to learn the family trade, and to be business savvy. Protective of his younger siblings, and a little sweet on the local baker's daughter who often had fresh treats for him. An overall unimpressive, and boring life-- until disaster struck when he was eighteen.

One rain evening --at the behest of a younger sister-- the family chanced the storm for her entertainment... and just like that? Their lives were pulled apart. The bridge washed out, and the carriage was lost to the river. Sebastian was able to help his brother Burton, and sister Alice to the banks-- but when returning to the cold water to search for the others? His father tossed the remaining sister, Natasha, to him, and his parents were swept off to an early wet grave. He was not able to save them all. A weight that settled about the older siblings throat like a noose. Had he been faster. Had he been stronger. Had Natasha never asked to venture out into the storm. Would they have survived? Surely...

Sebastian stepped up to become the head of the Vaughn household, and with their parents lost? The siblings needed to work together to face the future. But some of them, could not let go of the past. Some of them could not forget the fear in his father's eyes. The slumped form of his mother who had already succumb to the cold water. The darkness seeded in around his mind, and he was never the same for it. He became cold, and he became cruel. The loss twisting something up inside of him, and filling him with a deep hatred. It was gradual at first. The signs. But over the coming years? Sebastian's hatred of Natasha became worse behind close doors. It started with cutting down her meals. It progressed to taking away items their parents had given her. Her inheritance. Jewelry. Allowing her only enough so that on the surface? Their household seemed fine. Oh but it was so very far from it. But yet? He treated Burton and Alice, so very well. As if nothing was wrong, and scared? They did not object.

To the public? Everything was peachy. Perfect. As their social status, was one of the only things Sebastian seemed to care about. That, and money.

And yet... in private? He fought with himself over it. He warred with the voices that hissed nasty, vicious things into his mind late at night. The paranoid, ugly lies that became truths within his mix-matched eyes. Till at one point, he truly believed his sister was at fault for the accident that took away so much life from them. She fought, and that, only made it worse. It edged on the nightmare that was Sebastian, until he forget family and propriety-- and one gruesome night? He speared her with their fathers sword. But that single action, was what forced the elder Vaughn to see some error in his ways. When the darkness cleared, and he realized what he had done? That the voices in his mind had been playing tricks with his perception of the world? He married her off to the safest candidate he could find.

He couldn't erase the memory of her blood from his mind. Dripping. Dark, and black, from a silver sword in the candle light. How beautiful it had been. How cold, and haunting it felt to give into that desire. It chilled him. It disturbed him. And he knew? Something was deeply wrong with him. No man could cut his own family like that. No man could become so lost in his own grief... he was a monster, and worse? He knew it.

For a time after that? The darkness abated. He did not hear the whispers in his mind. As if Natasha was the trigger for them, and without that? He had more control. Seeking to get his life together? He married the daughter of a wealthy investor in his company, Anabelle. A scrawny little thing barely out of her teens. A wispy, haunted little thing that couldn't even look him in the eye. Sebastian was not cruel to her, but he was not loving at first. He saw a girl old enough to be his daughter, and was disgruntled by the fear in her eyes when he took her to bed. It made their union very uncomfortable, and there was little hope for children.

Then? The war came. Every household had to send one son to join the forces and defend their lands. The draft was undeniable. Standing there, staring at the letter? Sebastian could not imagine his younger brother, Burton, tangled up in such warfare. He was too irresponsible. Too foolish. He'd end up with bastard children at every port, or worse, come home dead in a box. If the body came back to them at all. So with what little love in his heart that he had left? Sebastian signed his own name to the letter, and enlisted. Much to the surprise and relief of his family, who could finally have time to breath without his overbearing shadow hanging around them like a blade waiting to fall.

It was a long, and arduous war. Three years of misery. Three long years, that pulled the darkness out of Sebastian and kept him alive. He was ruthless in the war. He was direct, but vicious. Utilizing the landscapes and climate in ways that felt seemingly unstoppable. He rose to an officer's status without so much as a question from his superiors. Getting a name for himself as surprisingly useful in tactical situations and bringing his men back alive. For once in his life? Sebastian felt free from the chains of society and family. But too, that darkness, enjoyed every minute of it's freedom. Death was so beautiful, until the war ended, and then the ugly truth of it was all that remained. Though his darker side had kept him alive? It had hollowed out the innocent parts of him. No longer a man, but dripping bloody memories like the monster he was.

A monster that returned from the war, to try clothe himself in a society that had no need for his bloodthirsty hungers and his dangerous new skillsets. A creature that landed at his families door with medals of victory and a newly knighted title-- but found no hero's welcome. Just a family that had even more reasons to be scared of him.
